Guarnaschelli started her cooking career in the earlier years, while watching her mom test recipes while she rewrote cookbooks at her home. She began her career under Larry Forgione before working in several restaurants, which included Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Guarnaschelli was eventually the chief cook of Butter. Guarnaschelli participated in the 2007 Farmers Market Battle, a segment of Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she had to face Cat Cora. The following year, she took part as the season's third runner to the winner of The Next Iron Chef, and has also served as on the panel for the show from the beginning. Also, she participated for Food Network's Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast episode, but lost the contest. Following the conclusion of season 4, she became Geoffrey Zakarian's sous-chef. She joined The Food Network's The Cooking Loft With Alex Guarnaschelli in 2008, on which she teaches a small group of students on the best ways to cook classic meals.
